The biggest conflict imaginable: Sun was open source friendly, while Oracle is not.
The Java and other communities are nervous, and are anxiously waiting for some reassurances from Oracle...
Projects I'm worried about:
- Java
- MySQL
- Open Office
- VirtualBox
- openxvm.org
- dev.java.net
MySQL
Monte Says: "Sun's acquisition of MySQL did not go smoothly; most of the MySQL leaders (both commercial and project) have left Sun and the people who are left are sitting with their CV and ready to press send."
People are not keen on what Oracle represents for MySQL and are likely to spread further.
Oracle
Lots of indications all the over the net that Oracle has some explaining to do. They need to make some statements and form relationships. I'm afraid that utter silence from Oracle in itself will be very damaging to all the Sun projects. People don't trust Oracle, and Oracle needs to change that.
